This small Venetian painting captures a moment that truly moved me. Painted en plein air in one of the city’s iconic palazzi, I was drawn to the dramatic shadow raking across the façade of the Venetian Hospital—a fleeting play of light that demanded to be studied.
There’s something magical about Venice’s many squares. After the tight weave of narrow streets, they openen up with the feeling of a cathedral interior, were light and sound resonate.
This piece is one of my personal favourites from the trip—a quiet triumph in my ongoing exploration of light, shadow, and the expressive power of paint.
