This was one of the largest paintings of the trip. It's always fascinating how one painting naturally leads to the next. I fell in love with this particular subject after finishing a smaller piece on my way back to my accommodation.
The moment I saw this scene, I knew I had to capture it. I love that it was painted an off the beaten path, a seemingly uninteresting location.
I love the gentle narrative that the figures and boats imply, as well as the way they help to draw the pictorial space.
As a larger piece, it would be a perfect focal point for a spacious room.
